Event multipliers explained: from national events to the World Championship

Winning a local show and winning a world championship should not be worth the same. The event multiplier is how the KBN formula recognises the level of competition. It is the second factor in every bout's points: base points × event multiplier × time value.

A World Championship title won by knockout is worth 390 points at full value, which is exactly the headline result in the demo record of Aleksei Karimov, the demo's World No. 1.

Who sets the level

Only KBN World HQ (the Ranking Committee or a super administrator) can set or change an event's level and multiplier. National branches can create events for their country as drafts and propose them, but HQ sanctions them. Athletes and organisers cannot choose a level.

Events without a level

When an applicant names an event KBN does not know, it is created as a custom event with no level. Until HQ assigns one:

• The bout scores 0 points.
• The bout cannot be approved.

This prevents anyone from inventing an event, or overstating one, to generate points.

Reduced multipliers and rejected events

HQ can set a per-event multiplier override lower than the level's default. That happens when an event did not fully meet standards: for example thin fields, officiating concerns or incomplete medical cover. At the extreme, HQ can reject an event: its multiplier becomes ×0, so every bout there scores zero.

An override can only lower the value; it cannot raise an event above its level's default. Every change is recorded in the audit log with who made it, when and why, and rankings are recalculated immediately.

What organisers should know

If you want your event to carry a meaningful multiplier, run it to the standards HQ checks: identifiable organiser, qualified officials, a ringside doctor, a clear ruleset, proper weigh-ins, and published official results. No payment, sponsorship or membership changes a level.

How the multiplier combines with time value

The multiplier and the time value multiply together. A KO win at a World Championship is 90 points at full value, 45 in its second year and 0 after 24 months. A KO win at a national event is 30, 15, then 0. Big events matter more, but they age at the same rate as small ones.
