How KBN ranking points are calculated: the complete framework

Every KBN ranking point comes from one formula: base points × event multiplier × time value, applied to each verified bout. Here is the whole framework with worked numbers.

KBN does not award points for reputation, fees or federation membership. Each ranking point is the product of one verified bout and one formula. The formula has three parts: what happened in the bout (base points), where it happened (the event multiplier) and how long ago it happened (the time value).

Points = base points × event multiplier × time value, rounded to one decimal, summed over every verified bout.

A loss earns the participation points only. A no-contest earns 0 by default (a configurable rule).

So a decision win is 25 base points, a knockout win is 30, and winning a tournament final by KO is 130. Placement bonuses are added on the final or semi-final bout only, so a champion is not paid twice for the same run.

2. Event multiplier

KBN World HQ may reduce a multiplier or reject an event (×0) that does not meet its technical or integrity standards.

The same 30-point knockout is worth 30 at a national event, 45 at an International Open, 60 at a continental championship, 75 at the KBN World Cup and 90 at the World Championship. The multiplier is set by the Ranking Committee when it sanctions the event; applicants cannot choose it.

3. Time value

Age of the result in months = days between the event date and today ÷ 30.4375.

Results keep full value for twelve months, half value from month 13 to month 24, and drop out of the active ranking after two years. That is why rankings move even in weeks when nobody fights: old results are quietly expiring.

Notice the expired 2024 result: it is still on his record and still counts in his verified 6-2-0, but it contributes nothing to the active total. In July 2027 the World Championship result will halve to 195 and his total will fall unless he adds new results.
