How results are verified after an event: from the judges' pad to the ranking

A result announced in the ring is not yet a ranking result. Between the referee raising a hand and the tables changing, there is a short, deliberate verification step. This article follows a result through it.

Step 1: scoring on the night

Judges score each round in the KBN referee app using the 10-point must system: 10-9, 10-8, 10-10 and so on, with knockdown and foul counters for each corner. Scores sync to the server and appear on the live centre within one poll, a few seconds. If a judge's device loses signal, rounds are queued on the device with a unique ID and synced when it is back online, without duplicates.

Step 2: the final result

When the bout ends, the official enters the final result: winner, method, round and time. This creates a bout record for both fighters with status pending and source "referee".

Step 3: verification

An administrator checks the pending result against the official record: the judges' scorecards, the result sheet, the method and the time. They approve it (verified) or reject it with a reason. Rejections might happen if, for example, the result was changed by an official review after the event.

Step 4: recalculation

When a bout is verified, the ranking engine recalculates the affected tables at once: base points × event multiplier × time value. Cached tables are cleared, so the public rankings, fighter profiles and verify page reflect the change immediately.

Step 5: the audit trail

Every step is recorded: who approved or rejected the bout, when, from which role and branch, with the before and after status. That is how disputes are resolved and how KBN proves results were handled correctly.

Results submitted by athletes

Athletes can also submit results from events KBN did not score live, through the application wizard or the fighter portal. These also enter as pending and follow the same verification, with extra checks on the event and evidence.

Why not count live results immediately?

Because live results can be wrong: scoring errors, protests, post-fight reviews, anti-doping outcomes. Verifying before counting keeps the ranking accurate and prevents a table from moving and then moving back.

If a result is disputed

Protests follow the event's rules and KBN's complaints and appeals procedure. While a dispute is reviewed, the verified status reflects the official result. If the result is changed through the proper procedure, an audited decision updates the bout and the tables recalculate.
